REGULATIONS

1 – INTRODUCTION
The GABRIEL Institute is a non-profit civil society organization that has been working for over 25 years to promote information, awareness, and sensitization about organ and tissue donation in Brazil.

Among its initiatives, the Humor Exhibition on Organ Donation stands out, using graphic humor as a tool to broaden the dialogue with society and encourage the development of a culture of organ donation.

2 – OBJECTIVES
Participants in this International Salon are invited to use their artistic and humorous vision to raise public awareness about the importance of organ and tissue donation in saving lives, highlighting the nobility of this gesture of love and solidarity. Through their works, graphic humorists have the mission of promoting reflection on organ donation.

Registration is free.

5 – PRESENTATION OF THE WORKS
All entries in all categories must be submitted online in A4 format (210x297mm) at 300dpi, produced using any technique, including graphic software, CMYK color mode, in JPG or PNG format, respecting the maximum limit of 10.0 MB.

It should be noted that works produced, in whole or in part, using Artificial Intelligence will not be accepted.

6 – NUMBER OF WORKS
Up to five original works will be accepted per category, in a single entry format.

7 – CATEGORIES
Cartoon – participants must create works that address the theme of “Organ Donation,” without resorting to visual puns involving musical and reproductive organs. It is crucial to avoid representations that could demean patients on the transplant list or stigmatize specific groups.
Cartoon – In this category, participants are challenged to produce critical and humorous graphic representations of political and social events related to the proposed theme. The cartoons must avoid any form of stereotype or prejudice regarding donors, recipients, or professionals involved in the organ donation/transplantation process.
Caricature (Valdir de Carvalho Special Prize) – In this edition, the Humor Salon pays homage to Dr. Joseph Murray, a notable and fundamental figure in the history of medicine, a pioneer in organ transplantation and responsible for the first successful human kidney transplant, performed in 1954; and to Dr. Emil Sabbaga, an important figure in the consolidation of this area in Brazil, who acted as clinical coordinator of the first organ transplant performed in the country, in 1965. For the creation of the works, we have made available on the Humor Salon website reference images of the honorees.
8 – AWARDS
Six prizes totaling R$ 4,500.00 will be awarded as follows:

Two first-place prizes, worth R$ 1,000.00 each, will be awarded in the cartoon and caricature categories.
Two second-place prizes, worth R$ 500.00 each, distributed between the cartoon and caricature categories.
Valdir de Carvalho Special Prize for caricature – one 1st place prize of R$ 1,000.00 and one 2nd place prize of R$ 500.00.
All categories will also have three Honorable Mentions (certificates), totaling 9 mentions. In addition to the aforementioned awards, extra prizes may also be awarded to participants by the event’s sponsors and supporters.

9 – VALDIR DE CARVALHO AWARD
The Valdir de Carvalho Prize was created to honor the co-founder of the GABRIEL Institute and aims to award works in the caricature category, as described in item 7 of these regulations.

10 – JUDGMENT
The Selection Jury will be composed of representatives from the GABRIEL Institute, under the coordination of the Salon President, and will be responsible for selecting the works in accordance with these regulations.

The Award Jury will be composed of healthcare professionals involved in the donation and transplantation process, graphic artists, and guests of the cause. Their decisions will be final and cannot be appealed.

The jury reserves the right not to award prizes to categories that do not reach a sufficient level, transferring them to other categories, or creating a special prize at the Salon for this purpose.

The prizes will be used to fund the GABRIEL Institute.

Should the Awards Jury find any kind of fraud or plagiarism in one or more submitted works, it may cancel the awarded prize. The works will be published on the Salon’s website shortly after the opening and may be contested up to 10 days thereafter, with admissible evidence of any irregularity.

In the event of a tie, the Selection Jury will decide the tiebreaker.

Other awards and honors may be established at the discretion of the Organizing Committee.

Submissions that do not comply with the regulations or that are plagiarized will be automatically disqualified.

Works that use collage techniques with images that are not the author’s own or that are not in the public domain will also be automatically disqualified.

11 – REGISTRATION AND SUBMISSION OF WORKS
Submissions must be made exclusively through the website: https://www.gabriel.org.br/salao-de-humor/inscricao/

The registration form must be completely filled out.

Participants must submit their work collectively by category, totaling up to 15 entries per registration.

Only one entry per participant will be allowed. If multiple entries are identified by the same author, only the first entry submitted will be considered valid, and the others will be automatically disregarded.

Incomplete applications will be rejected.

12 – GENERAL CONSIDERATIONS
Submitted works automatically become part of the Salon’s collection.

The selected works may be reproduced for exhibitions, institutional dissemination, and virtual catalogs.

The GABRIEL Institute is not responsible for technical failures, submission problems, or incorrect identification of submissions. Any omissions will be resolved by the Organizing Committee.

The CEDENT(S) of the works participating assign the copyright to the WORK, granting to the GABRIEL Institute, for all purposes and effects and in the best legal form, free of charge, irrevocably, unretractably and non-exclusively, the patrimonial rights relating to the WORK participating in the contest.

The assignment covered by this agreement includes the right of the GABRIEL Institute to use the WORK, as it sees fit, in any form and modality of exploitation, including reproduction, dissemination, media production or any other means, provided that it is intended to serve institutional purposes and the cause of donation.

It should be noted, however, that the moral rights to the WORK will always remain with the author(s), in accordance with current legislation, ensuring the right to have their name indicated as the creator of the work, as well as to preserve its integrity.
